An SPD Resource for Parents and Professionals.

The SPIRAL (Sensory Processing Institute for Research and Learning) Foundation is a research and education non-profit organization that specializes in helping families, children and adults with Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) and related diagnoses lead more productive and enjoyable lives through advancing knowledge of sensory integration theory, and assessment and intervention for SPD.

The Spiral Foundation was founded in 2001, by its parent company, Occupational Therapy Associates -Watertown, P.C. (OTA), with a mission to provide information and support regarding sensory processing through research and community education.

For Parents:

“Parent Speak” for Children with Autism

A Four-Week Parent Educational Program

March 1, 8, 22, and 29, 2012

Presented by Elizabeth Deutsch, MS, CC-SLP

This 4-week language-based educational program will support parents and paraprofessionals in working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorders between 3-6 years.

Topics to be discussed at length include social skills, play skills, sensory integration as it relates to language development, and executive functioning. Successful strategies used to support language and communication at varying levels will be presented.

Parents will create a make and take project to support their child’s current level of development as related to the topics to be discussed. As part of each workshop, parents will be given a binder containing key articles and materials to bring home. See our Parent Education page for registration information.

We have come to realize that to better understand SPD and its impact on individuals, we need to gather more information on typical sensory processing in the population as a whole. By completing an anonymous online survey you will help us gain an increased knowledge of sensory processing in typical adults of all ages and in adolescents aged 13 years and older.

We need as many adults and adolescents as possible from around the country and of all ages to give us feedback. We would appreciate it if you could take approximately 20 to 25 minutes to complete this online survey. Please invite any friends or relatives aged 13 years and older who might also be willing to assist us, to also complete the survey.
