Course overview

This course introduces practitioners to the core principles of sensory integration theory, focusing on visual, auditory, and vestibular processing, as well as praxis and cerebellar function.

Essential neuroanatomy for understanding these sensory processes and their application to intervention will be presented in a clear and accessible format, with a strong connection to functional outcomes throughout the course. The course also addresses the basic neurology and functioning of these sensory systems, praxis, and cerebellar processes.

When paired with Essentials of Sensory Integration Theory: Part One, this course provides a solid foundation for understanding the neurological underpinnings of sensory integration theory and its practical application in intervention. These two online courses are ideal for practitioners seeking a comprehensive overview of sensory integration theory and neurology, with meaningful insights into their application in therapeutic settings.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the course participants will be able to:

Articulate the key components of sensory integration theory related to sensory discrimination of visual, auditory and vestibular sensory processing; praxis; and cerebellar functioning.

Describe the key neurology and neuroanatomy essential to understanding sensory discrimination of visual, auditory, vestibular processing; praxis; and cerebellar functioning.

Apply understanding of sensory integration theory of these areas to intervention.

Agenda

  • Introduction and the Visual System (1.5 hours)
  • Vestibular-Auditory System (2 hours)
